Contractors :: Training

Contractors who participate in the Georgia Power and Southface Home Performance with ENERGY STAR (HPwES) programs must meet these three requirements:

    1. Possess a Building Analyst I certification from the Building Performance Institute (BPI).
    2. Complete the one day Home Performance with ENERGY STAR training.
    3. Complete three home performance assessments mentored by Southface staff.

Southface’s Home Performance Training Program is designed to help contractors meet these requirements.  The training program is modular in structure and divided into two core courses: the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR training and the Building Analyst training.  All contractors must complete the one day Home Performance with ENERGY STAR training.  For contractors who are not certified Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analysts, it is recommended to complete the three-day Building Analyst training to prepare for the BPI certification exams.  Please see descriptions below for more information.

Mentoring Period

Contractors participating in the HPwES programs are required to perform their first three home assessments with assistance from Southface staff.  This mentoring period is useful both for the contractor to gauge how the program can fit into their existing business, as well as gain more hands-on experience in the field assessing houses.  Southface can provide necessary diagnostic equipment for mentored visits.  Southface will continue to provide technical assistance and quality assurance for contractors participating the HPwES programs.
